Webinar: Year-End Accounting Closing Procedures For Churches And Nonprofits

by Alex Acree

.

This webinar will help you get started in reviewing your organization’s accounting to prepare for next year. If you use accounting software, some processes may be in place to assist you with some of the year-end accounting tasks. But there are also some things you should be aware of and take care of outside of the software.

There are various accounting procedures for every nonprofit and church to accomplish at the end of the calendar year. These include year-end accounting, bookkeeping and overall back-office tasks. In this webinar, we go over many of those procedures and illustrate how certain tasks can be done in Aplos.

During this webinar we discuss:

  • Year-end accounting reminders for nonprofits and churches, such as reviewing housing allowances for ministers, asking employees to verify the information on their W-4s, and noting Christmas gifts that may be considered taxable income in some cases
  • Year-end transactions, such as contributions that need to be accounted for in the year they were received or postmarked by December 31 of the closing year, reimbursements, and payroll
  • Reviewing accounts, including annual reports, bank account balances, fund balances, internal controls for next year, and budget preparation
  • Tax forms, such as the IRS form 1099 for vendors, and contribution statements

Hi, Chad! Our webinars never go beyond an hour — some even finish within 45 minutes. You could always just sign up and then if you can’t make it, we’ll still send you a link to the recorded webinar.

Hope that helps!

Will this be recorded? I’m in SE Asia so the time difference makes it unrealistic to attend but I’d like to learn about this.

In the webinar it was referenced that a document was saved regarding internal controls. I cannot find where this is located, can it be emailed to me?

Thanks!

Just watched the webinar. Nice overview. Only one question: We are a for-profit LLC (since May, 2017). We are calendar YE. Planning to convert to a not-for-profit in first Q of 2017. Do we file 5/15/17 a short year 990? We would do the 990N, since we would have less than $50k in all income.

Hi, Victoria! We’d feel more comfortable referring you to a tax professional for this question.
