What is Stewardship

In this course, we will discuss how to be good stewards, how to utilize your board or elders, and explore some best practices for overseeing your finances.

Financial health is directly connected to a philosophy of stewardship throughout your church, so so let’s kick this off with a question:

What does it take to be a good steward?

What is Stewardship

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 NRSV

In Jesus’ time, a steward in a home is the manager of the household. They are not the owner of the assets, but responsible for ensuring they are used well and protected. By recognizing that God has provided resources – whether they be time, talents, or finances – we can acknowledge that these gifts should be used well towards our mission. This is not just a value to be communicated to a congregation to implement in the lives of each individual, but also implemented throughout a church structure to ensure the church is using its resources well.
