Are You Sabotaging Your Fundraising Efforts?

by Megan DeCosta

Donations are a nonprofit’s fuel. When you start to run short, you can feel it. Without the proper tools or software to help you better communicate with donors, and even track giving trends to gauge financial health, you could be sabotaging your fundraising efforts by depriving your organization the opportunity to build lifelong relationships with donors.

Excel is great, and I’m sure you can continue to track your donors there. But let’s face it, Excel is not capable of reminding you when to reach out to these donors. That can mean losing donations for your organization, all because you forgot to check in with them.

A one-time donor is kind of like a blind date. You wine-and-dine them once, and then you never call them again. Not cool. So why would you not actively build better relationships with those one-time donors? If you want to build a lasting, strong relationship with your supporters, you have to put in the time. (I promise your wife didn’t pay me to add that in as subliminal messaging.)

Before you begin to doubt yourself and think, “Yeah, this all sounds great, but I have zero time to spend managing donors,” let me ask you this: how much does your mission mean to you?

I don’t intend to turn a dark corner, but if your organization isn’t getting the funds it needs, chances are it will not survive. At the end of the day, no matter how busy you are, you always need to fit fundraising tools into your time and budget.

So what’s the solution?

It’s simple: find donor software that fits your organization’s needs.

Donor Management Software

There are lots of options to choose from. If your organization is larger, you may need a robust software that can manage your very large contact database, help remind you when to reach out to those donors, and allow multiple users to work within the software at one time. But if your organization is smaller, you may not need all the bells and whistles to get a handle on your donor relationships. You also need something your organization can afford.

There’s good news though. Aplos Donor Management Software has the features large organizations need with the pricing smaller organizations can afford.

At its core, our software focuses on “Donor Progression.” This means, instead of focusing on dollars first, we’ll focus on donors. Because like I mentioned above, if you go on a blind date and wait six months to a year to call them, they may not be willing to go out with you again. The same goes for giving. If you aren’t putting the relationships with your donors first, they may forget about you, or even worse, decide to donate their money to another organization that put in the effort.

Imagine having a donor software that could remind you who to ask for money, when to ask, and how much to ask for. This eliminates a ton of administrative time so you don’t have to stress about having to juggle yet another ball.

I promise there are no gimmicks. Learn more about our donor management software and how the features can help your organization grow its fundraising. You can even try it for free!
