The numbers are in: Giving Tuesday 2016 raised $168 million. It smashed last year’s $117 million with 44% more giving this year! Since its humble beginning in 2012, the national day of giving has gone global. It has actively grown each year, surprising all of us.
For those who may not know, Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. It was created to intentionally contrast the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Mondays as a day that focuses on giving back rather than buying things. People choose to support their favorite organizations in the general spirit of giving, and it is clearly making a difference in the world. For nonprofits that are powered by donations, Giving Tuesday is probably one of the most important holidays of the year for your organization.
Don’t underestimate the level of generosity people have, particularly this time of year. If we have learned anything since its inception, the numbers from Giving Tuesday don’t lie.
Classy, one of the industry’s fastest growing fundraising platform for social impact organizations, published the following infographic this morning. It highlights all of the key numbers from this year’s Giving Tuesday. For all those who helped make it another big day for giving, you rock! #GivingTuesday
