Utilizing LinkedIn For Your Nonprofit

by Eric Burgess

Did you know LinkedIn has a number of resources, including guides and webinars, to help nonprofits succeed in the digital age? We’ll get into those resources in a minute, but first, here are some quick facts about LinkedIn:

  • LinkedIn operates the world’s largest professional network on the internet, with more than 433 million members in over 200 countries and territories.
  • Professionals are signing up to join LinkedIn at a rate of more than two new members per second.
  • There are more than 40 million students and recent college graduates on LinkedIn. They are LinkedIn’s fastest-growing demographic.

Those are some pretty compelling statistics, aren’t they? And LinkedIn offers some great resources specifically for nonprofits to utilize. When you go to LinkedIn’s main nonprofit resources page, you’ll see several sections, including:

Hire

Find your next hire when you post open positions in your organization. LinkedIn will help you find employees, and they give discounts on postings for nonprofits.

Market

Establish your nonprofit’s presence on LinkedIn, and share your cause with others to get them excited about what your organization is doing.  Expand your reach and connect with your target audience in the market section.

Fundraise

LinkedIn’s fundraising section will help you target the best prospects for your organization. It allows you to see how your people are connected to each other as well as others in their networks, such as potential board members, volunteers, or donors.

Case Studies

Check out various case studies of how other nonprofits are using LinkedIn to share their causes, and learn some best practices from them.

Volunteer Marketplace

Post volunteer opportunities in your area, where people can learn about your organization and actively help out with your cause.

Additional Resources

LinkedIn also provides grants to select nonprofits worldwide. Read through their qualifications and reach out to them to find out if your nonprofit qualifies.
