Introducing the New Navigation Menu

Here at Aplos, our goal is to provide a powerful fund accounting platform that feels intuitive and helps make work simple. We listen closely to your feedback, and we’ve heard that finding your way to the most-used parts of the platform could be faster and easier.

We’re excited to announce an improvement designed to do just that: a complete redesign of the Aplos navigation menu.

What’s new? A tour of the new layout

We are moving from the horizontal top navigation bar to a more modern and spacious vertical menu on the left side of your screen.

Here are the key improvements you’ll see:

• Left-hand vertical menu: All main menu items are now listed on the left. You can click into primary categories like ‘Fund Accounting’ or ‘Reports’ to see the secondary pages within them.
• More workspace: Need a little more room to view a complex report or your transaction register? The new menu is collapsible. Simply click to hide it and expand your working area.
• Consistent top tabs: The tertiary tabs you use to move between related pages (like Register, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable within Transactions) will remain at the top of your screen, so that part of your workflow will feel familiar.

This new structure provides a modernized look and feel, and it’s also built to make your accounting process smoother. How? You can find key areas like Transactions and Reports with few clicks, and you can use the new hierarchy for fast context switching between routine tasks.

Coming Soon: Personalize your navigation with bookmarks

We’re not stopping here. In the coming weeks, we’ll be adding the ability for you to add ‘Bookmarks’ to your navigation menu. This means you can create your own quick links to the pages you use most often. Whether it’s a specific bank register or a monthly budget-to-actual report, you’ll be able to access it with a single click from the top of your menu.

The Rollout Plan

We understand that changes to a familiar interface can take some getting used to. To make this transition as smooth as possible, we’ll be rolling it out in phases:

1. Optional Beta Preview: When you visit the Settings Menu in Aplos, you’ll see an option labelled “Try Our New Nav - Beta” where you can preview the new navigation. You can try it out and switch back to the old menu at any time during this period. Simply click “Legacy Navigation Toggle” at the bottom of the new left-hand menu.

2. New Default with Opt-Out: After the preview period, the new navigation will become the default experience. However, for a limited time, you will still have the ability to switch back to the previous version if you need to.

3. Full Transition: Some time in January, all users will be moved to the new and improved navigation menu permanently.

Why the Change?

Your time is valuable. The new navigation is designed to give you quicker access to the features you rely on every day, creating a more direct path to get your work done. This update also aligns the Aplos experience with other products in the Velora family, creating a more consistent and familiar feel for those of you who use multiple solutions.

We are confident these changes will create a better experience for everyone. This is an important step in our continued effort to make Aplos the most effective and user-friendly accounting platform for nonprofits. We look forward to you experiencing it soon!
