For nonprofits navigating the complex waters of financial management, a Comparative Budget to Actual by Month report serves as both map and compass. Beyond internal management, these monthly comparisons build credibility with donors and board members by demonstrating financial discipline and transparency. In an environment where every dollar matters, this simple yet powerful reporting practice helps ensure resources are directed where they'll create the greatest impact—toward fulfilling your mission.
Not only is this budgeting functionality extremely helpful, we've been hearing customers asking for this! Now in Aplos, you can compare your budget with your actual income and expenses by month for each account, fund, or tag. The report allows you to view all months for your fiscal year in one report and compare them to each other to identify any variances that may affect your financials, such as receiving more donations than you expected or encountering higher expenses during a project.
With the new Comparative Budget to Actual by Month report, you:
Aplos Core is required to run the Comparative Budget to Actual by Month report.
For Aplos Core users, the report is already enabled in your account. (Currently using Aplos Lite? Upgrade to Aplos Core.)
Simply navigate to the Reports page and select the Comparative Budget to Actual by Month report. The report will automatically populate year to date based on your organization’s fiscal year in your account settings. However, you have the ability to view the data through the month of your choice. You can also use the filters on the report to choose data for your accounts, funds, or tags (if enabled) that you want to compare.
